Can we talk about the genius writing in this final race? The Krogs told Aikka to lose the race on purpose in order to sabotage the Earth Team's chance at Oban. However, neither the Krogs and the Nourasians were aware that Spirit had a connection to the Earth Team because of Eva and the death of her mother. Spirit, knowing that Aikka's victory meant the Earth Team could advance to Oban, probably already decided on his own to throw the race. As a way of atoning for what he thinks was his sin (Maya's death), by letting Eva advance so she could have a chance at getting her mother back. And Spirit was probably so confused as to why Aikka was going so slow on purpose and not using his arrows at first, especially since he knows firsthand how fast Aikka's mount is. And, since Aikka came to protect Eva from what he saw as a threat to her during her race against Spirit. That Spirit probably guessed the two had a connection, and didnt understand why Aikka would lose on purpose knowing the Earth Team's chance on Oban lies with Aikka. With Spirit unaware of the Krogs grip on the Nourasians and their threat against Earth. And then theres Aikka; poor prince already has the weight of his planet and his people on his shoulders. Since he has to win in an attempt to free his people from Krog occupation. But at this particular race, he also literally carries the fate of Earth on his shoulders. Since if he loses, the Earth Team cant go to Oban which would be a disaster because of the Krogs. Aikka may not be aware that the Krogs want to commit genocide on Humanity, but he probably can guess that Earth is a target since they are racing too. And Aikka probably already knew about the first war between Earth and the Krogs, and knowing the Krogs, they would want payback for their first defeat against the Humans. Aikka probably wouldn't have cared about that until he met Eva. His connection to her, whether its romantic or platonic is irrelevant, changes the game for him. He knows at this particular point, if he loses, he can still go to Oban, but it would most likely be a death sentence for Eva and her people if the Krogs win the race of Oban. Despite the threats of Toros, and even though Aikka is still mad at her supposed betrayal, he just couldn't throw the race and decided to do the right thing. Aikka felt like he owed it to Eva, to give her and the Earth Team a chance to save their homeworld by going to Oban.

Recap up to the start of this episode + Analysis: Aikka faced the Spirit in the first race overall with the Spirit winning. Molly faced Toros and lost. That means that Super-Racer must have faced Rush here and won based on Don Wei's comments. Aikka and Molly then faced each other with Aikka winning. We hear from Don Wei in the last episode that Super-Racer has only lost to Toros, which must have occurred in this group of races. That leaves Spirit and Rush to have faced each other. The last episode shows the race between Molly and Super-Racer with Molly winning. Since Spirit has already had to have faced Rush and did face Aikka, that means that Spirit raced Toros in this group. Which leaves Aikka and Rush to have faced each other to end this group of races. Just by knowing the title of this episode, it can be inferred that Molly and Rush race against each other. Thus this group's pairings must be as follows: Molly vs. Rush Spirit vs. Super-Racer (Spirit has Super-Racer and Molly to race, so Spirit's race against Super-Racer must fit here.) Aikka vs. Toros (Fits with the last episode, both are the only two racers left unpaired for this group of races, and Rush needs to face Toros still.) And for the last round's pairings: Molly vs. Spirit Rush vs. Toros Super-Racer vs. Aikka

Satis didn't say that the Avatar doens't have power to bring someone back to life, he just said to Molly that the Avatar must "not tamper" with the laws of life and because of this: "Shouldn't" bring someone back to life. And SPOILER ALERT: In the next episode, Canaletto (the ultimate villain) escapes from his imprisonment and it is revealed that he was an evil Avatar who did whatever he wanted, and when Satis confronted him, he reprimanded him saying this: "The Avatar cannot use his powers for his own gain!". Which proves that this is a rule that the honored Avatars must follow! And considering that he only just told Molly that the Avatar must respect the laws of life with "shouldn't" bring someone back to life, this all proves that: Yes! The Avatar does have powers enought to bring someone back to life. But since the Avatar should have "respect for the law of existence" and "must not use his powers for his own gain". If she did bring someone back to life, this could make her a corrupted Avatar like Canaletto. What would be bad for her and dangerous for the future of the galaxy to have someone governing who does not respect the laws of existence.

Just noticed a bit of foreshadowing O, kross, ondai and lord furter don't make it out of oban alive and at the beginning of the race all 4 of them are positioned infront of the earth team in the race to foreshadow their deaths to the audience Whilst the surviving pilots aikka, ning and skun and muir all survive oban and are all positioned behind the earth team at the beginning of the race. Another foreshadowing is that lord furter crew survive but furter does not that's why his crew is visible when overtakes him but he isn't visible

Reckon canaletto also manipulated the race so that muir, O and lord furter wouldnt score any points Reckon the 3 of them likely got into some kind of battle and immobilised each other likely something like furter fired his cannon at O and O launched a powerful attack immobilised furter and muir and drained O energy

ok seriously this episode was straight up cinema, everything about this was just perfect, from the dark atmosphere, eva facing who she thought was her mother's killer, the fact that the stakes are so high because the team can't risk to lose again, the spirit being genuinely terrifying, the fact that the spirit didn't intentionally killed Eva's mother, even tried to save her, how now eva and her dad have no one left to blame because the death of their beloved one was nothing more than an accident, and of course, the fact that her death, probably haunts the spirit just as much as it haunts them

It’s crazy coming back to this episode now, and paying attention to how they put this out there when we we’re kids. When the alien touches Merton’s forehead you can tell dopamine is being released, then Tommy told him he wet his pants. Lol

I don't understand how the Earth Teams equipment managed to pick up the conversation between Sul and Canaletto or even get an image of Canaletto. Or even tracked Sul when he got swiped up and ended up way off course. Was it some kind of mystical interference that caused it?

This series aa a whole was phenomenal, so many things to take from it, so many things to appreciate, has some comedy, coming of age elements, mystery, lore, dark moments, the art and animation, awesome characters with great development across the board, lessons to take from it, to me this show was even on the level of avatar the last airbender in ways, this show only had one season, but it was enough to get points across, increase the story each episode with races added, as little bt little everything moved forward, with revelations being revealed after each episode! Some stuff was left ambiguous mainly on what happened to rick after he left alwas, the relationship between O and satis 10,000 years ago, the outcome for sul after he met canaletto, even the full powers of the avatar to explore, not everything needed to be added maybe, but im glad it was just to be ambiguous and to have us figure out what may have happened or been throughout the series! Kinda like the secret of nimh which has some mysterious lore in it, not everything needs to be completely explained, some mysteries allow the viewer to come up with their own ideas to fill the void

So for the final standings are like this: Toros 1st place with 5 wins 1 lose Aikka 2nd place with 4 wins 2 loses Molly and super racer 3rd place 3 wins 3 loses Spirit 5th place 2 wins 4 loses Rush 6th place 1 win 5 loses I assume super racer got an automatic win against rush in the final race as rush was too injured and his racer too heavily damaged, and even with the win, super racer loses out to molly as the tie breaker goes to whoever won against eachother in a previous race, as molly beat super racer in the 3rd race, the tie is broken in her favor

I turned 31 last week. For some reason, I remembered this anime and came to watch some of the episodes. Very profound for a children’s show. And the cartoon style was quite revolutionary for its time.

Always love how in this show, when the scenery is rainy, gloomy and gray, you know this episode is gonna be great

Spirit has likely felt overwhelming guilt after that moment, blaming himself for not stopping the race or trying to save Maya when he could, feeling guilt for all the pain it caused to her family, her fans and to her world. And to see all that pain in Molly, likely dug up that old wound. It's very likely Spirit wanted to win the race and use the wish to bring Maya back and atone for his failure.
